Our 2nd Annual Young Whale Warrior Kids Competition Has Officially Started With A Splash!
We love this time of the year with the excitement and anticipation that it brings! Yes that’s rights its Spirit’s Annual 2018 Young Whale Warrior competition time and already we’ve started receiving some amazing entries for this year’s comp.
We’re calling all young eco enthusiasts (from grades 3 – 6) across the whole of Gold Coast to join in the fun and to help bring awareness with an understanding of marine life guardianship and conservation.
With the entries starting on July 24th, all young Girls & Boys are being encouraged to submit a piece of Artwork about whales in any of the following mediums including “Drawings”, “Video”, “Writing” or even “Sculpture” to demonstrate their passion for these beautiful majestic creatures.
The young contestants will be judged on a number of factors from uniqueness of the work to the message within the artwork itself.
We’re looking to support this competition with a series of educational talks throughout the Gold Coast with our very own Marine Biologist Zara King with the hope to inspire the next generation on the importance of looking after marine conservation.
“This competition will encourage Gold Coast children to increase their knowledge of whales and become aware of the factors impacting their conservation. We are privileged to have Australia’s amazing ‘humpback highway’ on our doorstep here on the Gold Coast and we feel it is our responsibility to create opportunities to connect and protect this natural phenomenon.” ~ Angela Del Bianco said
This year’s competition looks to unveil the next Young Whale Warrior who’s passionate about whales and is dedicated to help with their conservation and protection.
Last years winner and the first Young Whale Warrior “Bobby Walls” will be handing over the title to the new young winner when they’re announced. He said he had an amazing experience working with the Spirit Team after his win.
“We’ve met up with Sea Shepherd and cleaned up our beaches, and we found a poor little baby stingray. I’ve actually got the barb of it in a jar at home,” he said.
We’re very excited as the new winner will receive a family season pass for the Spirit of Gold Coast plus an additional prize pack including a t-shirt, hat and the ultimate day out on the boat with Spirit of Gold Coast Marine Biologist Zara King.
Ms King said she’s inspired and looking forward to being involved in the Young Whale Warrior competition and hopes to share her passion with the newly crowned warrior.
“I am looking forward to spending a day with the Young Whale Warrior and to hear their enthusiasm for the whales and the oceans they inhibit,” said Ms King.
The whole Spirit team looks forward to seeing all the entries for this years competition and wish everyone good luck.
